With over eleven million dead on both sides, the TF2 war continues to escalate. The Soldier’s lead continues to slip entering the final day, with a mere fourteen thousand corpse lead on the Demomen.
New weapons for both classes have been revealed. The Soldier will be swinging a pick-axe named The Equalizer, suggested by the Internet’s own Tom Francis and Steam member jibberish some time ago! The more damage the Soldier takes, the faster and more deadly his own strikes with this new weapon becomes.
The soldier is also gaining The Buff Banner, a flag that fills his secondary slot. Doing damage fills the Soldier’s meter, and when he’s full up on rage he can toot his horn, giving nearby allies nearly fifteen seconds of mini-crits.
The Demoman’s third weapon has also been announced, a new sticky-bomb launcher known as The Scottish Resistance. This lays out sixteen stickies, twice as many as the original launcher, and allows the Demo to choose which he decides to detonate. These new bombs have a longer fuse and can’t be triggered as quickly, though they can destroy enemy win-bombs.
How is all of this new stuff going to work? I have no idea, it’s too goddamn early. But we’ll find out soon enough; the war’s almost over.
Of course, both classes have new achievements to earn, and we also saw the results of the propaganda contest yesterday, which contributed to the war tally.

Sorry, but you got it wrong. Jibberish invented the Equilizer. He’s the one who got emailed about it when Valve said they are useing his idea.
Francis is just a big name in a magazine who happened to think of the same idea.
December 17, 2009
I would have thought someone named Francis would have the following response: I hate pick-axes…and miners…and cave-ins…and the black lung…
December 17, 2009
The update page says BOTH invented it.
December 17, 2009
Really, LaZodiac? This is pertinent information worth quibbling over, why? Two people came up with the same idea independent of each other, and Valve names both of them, but for some reason you want to give 100% of the credit to Jibberish… why, exactly?
December 17, 2009
If you’re going to single one of them out for inventing it, Tom Francis posted his idea almost a year before jibberish did. I don’t think there was any copying of ideas there, but if anybody insists that a single person invented it, it’d be Tom Francis.
December 17, 2009
Sorry, missed that jibberish was also cited as the inventor. My reading comprehension is a bit off at 7am. Updated the post to reflect that.
December 17, 2009
Yep, Tom beat Jibberish to the punch by ages. Even though it appears that they came up with it separately, a fair few members of the TF 2 team do read Tom’s blog.

What the holy over-powered community weapons owned by Tom Francis….Batman!

Well then, as some of you may remember, I came up with Meet the Sandvich. I DESERVE A SANDVICH THAT DOES 9K DAMAGE.
December 17, 2009
Wow, he’s got the worst. Scattergun. Ever.
December 17, 2009
Jethro, that’s just obnoxious…
December 17, 2009
This is going to be an interesting update. Although the interesting Demoman weapons seem a little gimmicky, and the uninteresting ones seem a little well, uninteresting..
December 17, 2009
I didn’t mean to say Francis shouldn’t be included as well, after all Valve mentioned him as well. Just wanted to point out Jibberish.
At any rate, kill taunt for the Equilizer is awesome. Suicide Grenade.
December 17, 2009
Ah, my fault. When you said “Jibberish invented the Equilizer” and “Tom Francis is just a big name in a magazine who happened to think of the same idea” I thought you were, y’know, trying to say that Jibberish invented the Equilizer and that Tom Francis was just mentioned because he’s somewhat well known and happened to come up with the same idea.
Not sure how I got confused there.

I’m sorry, I’m not to good with words sometime.
Doesn’t help that I only had three hours of sleep because of this bedamned war X_x

Well the war is over now.

Victory on the Internet day!
This day will go down in history, for sure. And I’ll gladly be among the proud grandfathers who will recount the glorious win we Soldiers had and how I slaughtered Demomen valiantly. You know… out of the three Demomen I slaughtered.
December 17, 2009
I will proudly remember…
getting slaughtered by a soldier…
as a pyro. I got him too though.
December 17, 2009
I will proudly remember how much I hate this game anyway. Gaaah, I don’t often rage but god damnit I’m the worst player in the entire thing.
December 17, 2009
Thanks guys. It sounds to me like Jibberish’s post is what inspired them to try it, but someone was aware I’d mentioned it earlier and they graciously included me for that reason.

HOOAH! Soldiers win.

And TWO NEW MAPS!
Gorge and Doublecross
http://www.teamfortress.com/war/maps/
December 17, 2009
Doublecross looks awesome. I love CTF.
Also, rocket boots would be handy (although with the pickaxe, a soldier will probably WANT to hurt himself more). For me, though, I’d like them because I FAIL at rocket jumping, which often causes me to shoot rockets at myself four times before getting on top of the battlements to be murdered by a kukri-wielding sniper. So hurrah!
Does Robin Walker write this stuff? It’s GENIUS. “a young bearded inventor named President Abraham Lincoln stumbled upon the answer: stairs.” It brings tears to my eyes.

Just have to wait an hour for the clutter to go down so I can go play this crap…
December 17, 2009
Just looked at the patch notes.
“Added work-in-progress TF Bots for beta testing in KOTH maps (blog post coming with more info)”
Sounds interesting.
December 17, 2009
Yay! can’t play because of this server enforced “dx80.pdf water_particle” shit -_-
December 17, 2009
Items seem to drop more frequently now.
IIRC, I got (in ~1 hr, give or take)
3 scrap metal
all 3 demo unlocks
a cloak/dagger
a FaN.
RAH!
December 18, 2009
So, to make scrap metal you need three weapons, to make reclaimed metal, you need 3 scrap, and to make refined, you need 3 reclaimed. To make a hat, you need 3 refined, let’s see, that’s 3(weapons)x3(scrap)x3(reclaimed)x3(refined); 81 weapons to make one.
December 18, 2009
It doesn’t matter that soldier won. Demo got a f* sword, the best weapon after the fine-art of Jarate.
December 18, 2009
Agree with Arthur. Sword is the Win. Besides, I take Shield over Boots any day.
@odeed: unless they randomly give you scrap, which they sometimes do.
