So, I missed this contest on the Garry’s Mod forums (because I no longer frequent the Garry’s Mod forums) to create the new background image for Garry’s Mod that you see when you start the game.
Garry posted some of his favorite entries to show just how hard it was to choose a winner, and they’re all really great. Take a look for yourself. Good to see male_7 is still getting lots of attention.

Good to see Gmod is still very alive. Some people get a bit too creative using it as it seems ;)

I literally said, out loud, “Holy fucking shit” when I saw that last one. Dear God, that is amazing.

Always thought the G-man stuffed in a cone pic was a bit juvenile. It’s like the first reason that trying to get back into Gmod results in a big “meh” for me.

Gmod is so freaking buggy to me, keeps crashing and low fps and stuff. Funny how male_7 is still Garry’s Mod symbol.

@Nonomu198: Perhaps your downloads aren’t good.

@Nonomu
Yeah, I’ve got the same problem, tempted to delete everything and reinstall it - will let you know if it works.

Sob….I wish so badly that I could play Gmod, or TF2, or any Source based game for that matter (Besides l4d and l4d2). Alas, my Steam is poopy and won’t let me, even though I own every Valve game…

I think his argument for not having it pick a random one at startup was very weak.

Well, I promised an update in April, and clearly I missed the window. But, I don’t want to break my promise — that’s just not something I do — so it looks like you’ll have to wait until next April. Seeya in 364 days!
Seriously, I’m working on it, and it should be here in week or so. It’s pretty obvious you have no reason to believe me, since I’m always saying stuff like this and never delivering. But it’s coming, and it’ll be here soon. If it’s not here soon, you’ll see it eventually. If, eventually, you don’t see it, it’ll be here someday.

Aww, damn, I should go there more often. I could’ve come up with something cooler than some of the things they have there. Oh well, I snooze I lose.

And thus, male_7 shall forever be immortalized.

@Zedo Mann & Jimborb
No, I have tried enough clean installs. Nothing works, still getting around 15 fps and crashes and whatever.

I should probably get it, I played it fanatically until it when commercial and made a lot of screen-shots and comics. But just sort of stopped.

See, when I see male_7 my head just goes: “Good ole’ Gordon Frohman!”

While Gmod is the coolest toy ever made, it can be frustrating for those trying to run it on anything less than a dual-core proc at less than 2.6GHz (with a FSB of at least 1333.) On my old Pentium 4 single core (despite it being a respectable 2.4Ghz) it would take nearly 4 minutes to boot up Gmod -and another 4 to 6 minutes to launch most levels! These days, no one wants to wait that long for an app to launch, no matter how fun it is.
Framerate issues abound in Garry’s mod. Lack of optimizing? Or is Gmod simply too big, too comprehensive for any amount of optimizing to reduce the load on old machines? I don’t know. A code warrior I am not.
Once I got myself a Core 2 quad running at 2.8 Ghz (via a minor overclock) with a nice GTX 260 GPU, oh how things changed! Gmod boots in 35 seconds, most levels load under a minute! Framerates now hover between 78 (Flatgrass) to an average low of 34 (most custom levels downloadable from Garry’s site.) I attribute the low framerates now to optimization issues by the map’s authors.
Now that Gmod is finally “accessible” I plan to teach myself how to rig model, use STOOL and other NPC techniques to start making films like the hilarious stuff that Bo Shitt and l337 Caleb turn out. You don’t need to learn LUA to do amazing stuff in Garry’s mod, just know how to search and apply yourself to a little old fashioned learning.

Using the new steam feature (that tracks total hours played on game since sometime a long time ago) like a creepy stalker, I reckon that not only had Chris not touched Gmod since that point, but also that he only played L4D for 4 hours. Which makes me wonder how did he manage to push me into buying it, since I hate it and played it for longer than him. It also brought the question of wheather or not do I play games that I don’t like for too long. And finally, why did he buy L4D2.
Creepy stalker!!!

Go male_7! Woo he is the best actor ever.

I would buy gmod 11 if it came out tomorrow as long as it had pic #1.
…Just don’t tell Garry.

Grr, stupid comments being locked in the Torchlight post…
@ChrisTwitter: How far into Torchlight are you? Like what level player and what mine level?
