Week Ender: Fire in the Hole

Hi guys! Sorry about all the missthrown flashbangs.

Hi guys! Sorry about all the flashbangs!

Didn’t get a whole lot of gaming in this week, but  I actually played a couple hours of Counter-Strike: Source for the first time in a long while.  Forgot just how much fun it can be, especially with no random pubbie CS dickweeds.  I only played with dickweeds I personally know, and that makes all the difference.

I also forgot how bad I am at CS.  Number of enemies blinded by my spastically thrown flashbangs: maybe two?  Number of teammates, probably three times that.  Number of times I blinded myself: every.

And now, the news that other sites told about you days ago:

L4D had a couple big updates.  Barf! Necrotic Ipecac Drink added for Boomers as an unlockable.
EVE Apocrypha released.  It adds 41% more space to be kinda bored in.
Crytek develps a new engine.  Just a few more years until I can run their last one on medium.
Bethesda talks about The Pitt.  We have to give up all our weapons again?  Dammit!
There’s a Big Sister in Bioshock 2.  You can defeat her by playing a Pipe Dream minigame.
GameCyte folds.  No snark, that’s just a shame.  Sorry to hear it, guys.

On my roster this weekend:  gonna take another crack at the UT3 free weekend, maybe check out this MLB demo that RPS talked up.  And I might uninstall The Graveyard because I restarted it last night and the old woman was still dead!  I don’t like the thought of a dead old woman on my hard drive.  It’s just a bummer.

Okay.  Over to you.

That show made me install HL1 again. But for some reason the parental lock keeps resetting itself every time i launch the game. I want gibs, damnit.

Black Mesa Source, where art thou?

I have grown tired of fps games. So now i play company of heroes and world in conflict.

They finally fixed a crippling multiplayer bug in Dawn of War 2, so I’d get back into that. UT3 was a blast (OH HO HO GET IT) last weekend, and promises to be even more so with people actually being able to DOWNLOAD THE GAME before the event’s over. Red Orchestra is a weekend deal, I’ve barely gotten to check out the Scout Update, and I still haven’t finished 60% of the (non-story) BASE game of Fallout 3.

I really want to pick up Mad World, but there’s no way I’ll have enough time the weekend just to CATCH UP on my slacking and ineptness, let alone start a new unproductive vice. How do you do it?

Probably Medieval 2 Total War, because I figured before that I’d play for a short while, and “a short while” became 6 hours. Damnt that game’s addicting.

March 13, 2009

Maybe some free UT3, some Gang Garrison 2, lots of Fallout 3…and I guess that it. I might pick up a few new games off Steam.

Might be getting some old fashioned Saints Row achievements done. Or some Rock Band beat stuff. Getting able to play three star songs on Hard, yeah!

March 13, 2009

I’m going to play a load of Fallout 3, Fallout 3 and more Fallout 3. It seems that whatever I do I end up going back to it with a new character.

Also, Team Fortress 2 and possibly a bunch of practice clan wars of Counter-Strike: Source with my friends.

No mention of the TF2 blog update? Is it to unimportant for FPS? But yeah, I might play some Battlefield 2 for some shits and giggles because of my horrible wireless internet connection.

Yay, Frohman! I love that guy.
Hmmm, I dunno if I’m gonna do much gaming this weekend, but if I do it’ll probably be a little Mirror’s Edge, some Fallout 3 or maybe some L4D.

A bit of Battlefield 2 (single-player with the AIX 2.0 mod, most likely), a little of some good flight sim (IL-2 1946 or Battle of Britain 2), and lots of economy-strategy games (The Guild Gold, Capitalism, and Patrician 3). And a bit of Sword of the Stars: A Murder of Crows to wrap it up.

So many games, so little time…

I’d like to put in a request to lengthen the comments section on the Livin’ in Oblivion site. We have started to make the most of the comments section by copy-pasting WHOLE WIKIPEDIA ARTICLES. It’s getting slightly ridiculous. And I started it. I know you read this, Mr Livingston. I don’t care if you update (well, actually, I do, but I’m very patient), but could you please just, if possible, add an extra 500 or so comments, or another “Hiatus”-type page so we can continue with our inane chatter?

I’ll be complaining on the steam forums about the recent TF2 update, which reduces the damage stunned players take by half.

Not really, of course, but I can’t believe VALVe caved to those complaints.

Holy crap, according to that Gamespy interview I used to play AD&D with the creative mind who invented the AutoAxe. Awesome.

I found out how fun playing fallout 3 in an over the shoulder view is, so ill be doing that. Anyone know of a fallout 3 cover\blindfire mod?

egomaniac
March 13, 2009

Keeping up with the slow trickle of Bioshock 2 info has pretty much eaten up my free time this entire week, so I’ll have to make up for all the Fallout 3 I didn’t play. I still haven’t played my new copy of Earthbound yet, so I’ll probably alternate between that and FO3 both over the weekend and spring break.

I thaught the entire point of counterstrike was to see how many team mates you could flash bang…

March 13, 2009

chris, you might want to say something more specific other than ‘over to you’. spammers don’t need much provocation, i speak from experience.

for me, Halo Wars all day all night. maybe a bit more of oblivion now that its stopped glitching and freezing.

March 13, 2009

I preloaded the UT3 free weekend this time, started playing when I got home from work, and stopped around the time I would be going to work. Guess that’s my weekend.

Sandman nerf ftw!

It’s okay, Chris, I’m terrible at Counter-Strike too.

Headwoünd
March 14, 2009

I hear ya Killa-Ewok. I grabbed Rome: Total War for 15 bucks on Steam and can’t get away from it. But I was 30h into the Julii campaign, wiped two factions from the map (those Gauls had it coming!) and lost my savegame when I wanted to de- and reinstall only Steam not every single game dammit!

Now excuse me, I have to eradicate some Greeks before they are able to train Spartan hoplites (scary stats are scary).

Also Sandman nerf is ok I guess. Don’t need that thing anyway, real Scouts triple jump nowadays.

Killa-Ewok
March 14, 2009

I’ve grown fond to exploit every single crack of non-FaN fixed spots in the maps. Oh boy, the scout course in cp_bestinclass is SO easy now.

Silent Hill 4, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and F.E.A.R. Oh, and I’ll try out UT3 too.

I have some homework lining up which I need to take care of. A report on Beethoven for Art History, quite a theoretical math test, … I really need to begin on my history paper aswell.

For gaming, I’m gonna try to finish up my Sam and Max Let’s Play, and fiddle around some more in the Grand Ages Rome demo. The damn game won’t recognise my middle-mouse button though.

What’s the general consensus on UT3? I’ve preloaded it but haven’t gotten a chance to play yet.

Any chance of Nondrick getting updated soon? I need my dose of non-adventure!

Definitely some Graveyard. It sounds odd, but that’s probably the most visceral game I’ve played in a very long time.

UT3 is great. Definitely worth $12.

March 15, 2009

Mr Livingston, PLEASE! Just give us a sign that there is an end somewhere! I honestly don’t give a damn what it is, just say SOMETHING! I may be going slightly mad. Besides, ignoring people is rude. What did we do to you?

This sounds really whiny. I apologise.

“CryEngine”. Seriously? a CRY ENGIENE? What the hell.

Will there be a small brother?!

And you guys, check this out. I don’t even own CS:S. I am so awesome.

@nonomu198-Are you supposed to make sense, or are you intentionally trying to confuse everyone?

Kollega
March 15, 2009

@Midget52: Chris told that it’s hard to be non-adventurer in games like Oblivion (which is stuffed with adventures). I mean, stealing ingridients instead of gathering them (because fleas and other canine parasites is annoying as hell) isn’t usual NPC-esque behaviour (that’s proably misspelled, but frankly,i don’t care in any way).

n00bie51
March 15, 2009

How CryEngine 3 will be able to run on PS3s and Xbox 360s while they’re not even running any titles running CryEngine2 (namely Crysis) now seems like an impossible task to accomplish. Then again, they did make what I consider to be the best visuals in any shooter I’ve ever played.

Putzy
March 15, 2009

thats right! and dont worry, the first urobora will only kill you 300 billion times, the second is much easier! also, guess what? bullets cant harm them! teehee!

i dont suppose anyone knows any tips on killing the final boss in re5? any secret ammo locations? please?

DethPenguin
March 16, 2009

@Barium

Ah, the classic “It’s not even out, don’t judge it.” It was the most common argument to every negative statement about Fallout 3 before it was released. When it was, said negative statements held true, and then came “Oh, it’s just released, those should be fixed soon.” Right. Seeing as how there’s a trailer, and the game in said trailer looks like cow dung, I’d say its only logical for people to be disappointed with it.

Midget52
March 16, 2009

@ Sinister Minister: I know he doesn’t owe us anything, but by starting the blog he is obligated to see it through to a conclusion, not to abruptly leave it with no notice. It’s just common courtesy.

Thanks for the shout-out, sir. We at GameCyte are sorry to hear it, too. Possibly sorrier.

Still, we had a hell of a time, and we all appreciated you reading our stories and linking to our TF2 contests, and writing stuff we could link to, too.

I’m still around, and still reading, so keep up the awesome posts here. Drop me a line any time!

@Mike- I actually have those dreams sometimes. It usually ends up with Nondrick breaking all of the rules and me getting very mad/sad.

As you can tell, I have no life.

n00bie51
March 18, 2009

@Barium, he’s got a point. People made genuine criticisms for Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 when they played the betas, but people said, “It’s just a beta, they can change that.” And then when the games were released, they still suffered from the same issues.

K5 Josh
March 18, 2009

Chris, you forgot to mention that Merchants of Brooklyn runs on the CryEngine2.

Barium
March 18, 2009

The thing is.. it’s not a beta.

‘Tis but a trailer.

That didn’t even show any gameplay.

Kowl Slaw
March 18, 2009

The trailer for M.O.B. looks really, really awesome. I think I’ll have to pick this one up.

Awcko
March 18, 2009

Well, I’m gonna be spending most of my time with GTA: Chinatown Wars for my neglected little DS. CW is probably one of the best DS games out there, hell, maybe even one of the best GTA games.

n00bie51
March 18, 2009

Barium, Chris didn’t have to see the Sandman in action to express concern over how it could negatively affect the gameplay in TF2. He was vindicated when the Scout pack was released and the Sandman really did turn out to suck the genitalia of elephants and whales simultaneously.

Awcko
March 18, 2009
