"Oh no! The evil DomZ forces have invaded Hillys and are abducting childr -- ooh, is that a squirrel?" *click*
So, kind of a slow week here on the site. Sorry about that. I’ve started writing a couple new entries but never managed to finish any of them. Hopefully, there’ll be a bit more to read next week.
This week I finally started playing Beyond Good & Evil, which I bought ages ago. Haven’t gotten too far, but I’m enjoying it apart from the wonky PC controls. Evil creatures are invading the planet, but my biggest concern is taking pictures of butterflies and fish and birds so I can pay my electric bill.
And there’s something very enjoyable and satisfying about taking pictures in games. Reminds of my favorite thing about Bioshock: taking pictures of enemies. Might have to reinstall that this weekend.
I’ve also been playing the HL2 mod Eternal Silence, which is a little rough around the edges but still a lot of fun. It’s sort of an attack/defend/control point hybrid, set in outer space. Teams engage in spacecraft dogfights while trying to invade each others motherships, where the combat switches to first-person capture point play.
I am incredibly awful at the spaceship combat part, and most of my kills while flying my ship happen in my own hanger, where, while spinning helplessly out of control, I wind up crushing or smashing a number of my teammates. Good times. I recommend anyone with a source engine game check it out — it’s free and good fun.
How about you guys? Play anything fun this past week? Got some gaming plans this weekend? Here’s your chance to sound off.

Hoping to get in some good time on Mass Effect and Far Cry 2 this weekend. Haven’t played either in a few weeks so it’ll be a good weekend.
February 13, 2009
I too enjoyed taking photos of the enemies in Bioshock. There was similar fun to be had in Dead Rising (on the 360). I hope they keep those elements in the sequels.
What other games are there in which photography play a major role? Off the top of my head all I can think of is Pokemon Snap! … Wasn’t there a Japanese game about taking photos of ghosts? Fatal Frame? That rings a bell.
February 13, 2009
Played NecroVisioN demo. 3 times.
I think we have ourselves a new “Return to Castle Wolfenstein”. Partly because i sense Raven’s upcoming Wolfenstein to be a turd (hope i’m wrong though).
February 13, 2009
My internet connection is being wierd… I mean I can go on this site, google and several web comics… However most forums, steam and MSN all say i’m offline.
So for now i’m playing some single player things.
February 13, 2009
Been playing a lot of Planescape: Torment over the past week. Right now though, I’m re-installing my copy of Overlord to maybe play over the weekend.
February 13, 2009
I’ve been playing the Halo Wars demo a lot lately, just bought an itouch and Sins of a Solar Empire, so I’m going to have fun with those. I also rented Overlord, so I’m gonna have a full weekend.
February 13, 2009
Will probably play some Saints Row 2 and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Maybe Half-Life 2 Episode Two.
February 13, 2009
gonna play some WAR on them fancy pants american RvR realms even though I’m in Australia someone quest with me!
February 13, 2009
I’ve been playing the other more awesome mod released on Steam, Dystopia!
February 13, 2009
Dead Rising has photography elements. And Pokemon Snap is epic, I played it just the other day :3
February 13, 2009
Burnout got me last weekend by the short and curlies. I think it will probably retain it’s hold on me for most of this weekend. Although I may go through some other oldies in my collection and replay those. Beyond G&E is probably high up there on my tempted to return to. Although so is Monopoly Tycoon…
February 13, 2009
In the five or so hours’ gap I have to play games over the weekend, I have a duty to play Dystopia (to make the games more fun for newbies… by… spamming them with nades…… yeah…), I have Max Payne on the go (thanks, Steam), Payne 2 and the Ghost Recon series waiting (again, thanks, Steam), and also a really strong urge to hook up the Wii and play some GameCube games again. Specifically, F-Zero GX and PN03.
Also, BG&E is ridiculously short, especially for a last-gen game. The controls work well enough, and it’s great fun for the time there’s game to play, but still.
February 13, 2009
I’ve also been playing Eternal Silence. I’ve taken quite a liking to it, and it’s actually pushed Left 4 Dead out of my “Game That I Play Regularly” slot. I really like the integration of first-person shooter with space combat - it’s mostly seamless and both aspects are pretty well done in my opinion.
Hopefully I’ll see you on there!
February 13, 2009
If you do see me on, cpsethgt, and you see me boarding a gunship, run the other way! I am seriously a danger to all those around me.
February 13, 2009
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
February 13, 2009
I got F.E.A.R. 2. It’s a fun game, but no one has anything positive to say about it since it seems most of the people who got it were people who played the original F.E.A.R. and wanted the second to be exactly the same. It’s too bad.
February 13, 2009
Sigh.. currently EVE Online pretty much owns my soul… siiigh~~
Still having 6 days of trial left and when I’ll get into my first cruiser tomorrow I fear I will be sold beyond the trial period.
But the cool thing is that your skills keep upgrading when you go offline, so I’ll still be able to squeeze in some TF2 and L4D sessions while one of those skills I need to fly a cruiser takes THREE freaking days.
Everything’s just so much bigger in EVE..
February 13, 2009
Photography elements are great….
Need for Speed Underground 2 had you taking pictures of your car for magazines… that was good fun but not as awesome as in Bioshock & Beyond Good And Evil.
Been playing FEAR 2 - terrible game… Monolith seem to be trying to fix the problems with the original FEAR by introducing a load of new ones.
February 13, 2009
“Wasn’t there a Japanese game about taking photos of ghosts? Fatal Frame? That rings a bell.” - David
That’s right - but if you’re in Europe or Australia, the game was renamed to Project Zero.
I recommend picking it up, if you love photography so much that you’re willing to fight ghosts with a camera and mess your pants while doing so. It’s great!
February 13, 2009
There’s also this cute one from Orisinal, which lets you collect a paycheck for shooting video of UFOs.
February 13, 2009
One of my dear gaming friends FINALLY picked up L4D so I’ll be playing that and TF2. Might even play “BlowJob” if I can find a girl that’s lonely on V-Day.
I think I’m going to try that Eternal Silence mod, sounds like a good version of BF2142 which I LOVE TO DEATH but it’s just so damned laggy and buggy…kinda like a lonely girl on V-Day.
February 13, 2009
Dead Space and uncharted:Drakes fortune for the PS3 atm. I’m whoring trophies like a bitch.
That and Titan Quest on the PC. can’t go wrong for $4 (like £2.33 here). It’s like Diablo but with ancient history :P
February 13, 2009
I’ve been playing Left 4 Dead quite a lot recently. I’ve had it since XMas but not really played it that much. I’ve pretty much played it non-stop all week.
February 13, 2009
My copy of ArmA finally arrived (after two weeks!!), so I’m focused on getting through the first mission. I think it’s going to take a few days…
February 13, 2009
I started Fallout 3 this weekend. My girlfriend had it since Christmas but I was trying to give her time to play through it first. I thought V.A.T.S would get on my nerves more but so far it’s been pretty nice. Nothing like shooting the head off a dog while it’s in mid-leap in slow motion.
February 13, 2009
Holy Crap! L4D is only $25!!!!!!
February 13, 2009
I am about 75% done with Burnout Paradise. I also picked up FEAR 2 on steam and have been playing that on and off. Plan to finish one those games this weekend.
February 13, 2009
Spending Valentines with Fallout 3 :3
February 13, 2009
Oh, boy, what a week it has been
I’ve discovered Dystopia, a moderately old HL2 mod. It’s absolutely amazing.
And then the servers broke.
And now they’re fixed again.
That about sums up the weekend.
February 13, 2009
No gaming plans- I’m going skiing, and the cabin where I stay has no internet, so I can’t play L4D. However, I might be able to play some Fallout 3.
February 13, 2009
Since my mom put me on an video game embargo a year ago, i guess im just gonna stick to my usual Kongregate, Cave Story, maybe Goldeneye Source, Duke Nukem, and Doom routine. I might even play on my friends WOW account if he ever gets off. Im also really hoping on them releasing the Scout pack for TF2 so i might play that.
February 13, 2009
Im surprised chris hasn’t posted about this yet. Its a Half life 2 Live action machinima Called escape from city 17. Its fucking brilliant. Click my name for the youtube link
February 13, 2009
Oh i stand corrected, he has posted about it
Shit
February 13, 2009
I play to play some more Evil Genius, glad i got back into that.
February 13, 2009
I’m thinking about playing a little bit of Portal First Slice, and I really need to finish hl2 sometime soon. It’s been too long since I’ve played that game. Multiplayer games such as TF2 and L4D have been occupying much of my gaming time.
February 13, 2009
Oh Beyond good & evil…. I had forgotten that I was playing that, hope it still works, had to tweak it some to play it last time.
Well, it havent been any Pc playing this week, ive been stuck with Smackdown vs Raw 2009 on my Wii and im planning to get house of the dead: Overkill soon, besides, my Pc hates games at the moment.
February 13, 2009
I’ve been playing alot of L4D recently, and figured out how to manipulate the voice commands, so running around a map shouting “PILLS HERE!!” is pretty interesting. I’ve also been playing Postal 2 which my friend let me borrow, which is, for a lack of better terms, an interesting game. If you have the change, check it out. The graphics are about in the middle of the original Half-Life and Half-Life 2, so its not frustrating to look at the scenery. The gameplay is pretty good, though the gunfights have things that could be desired. There’s plenty of comedy, racism and extremist family groups to go around, so if you haven’t played it, I strongly recommend you play it. If you’re offended easily by racial slurs and stuff of that genre, me thinks you should pass on this game.
February 13, 2009
In EVE, your stats can level up if you’re not online.
So it basically rewards you for not playing.
February 13, 2009
Well, I’m planning on getting all of the Fallout 3 achievements, but that’s it. And if I get all of them, I’ll just beat Castlevania: Order of Eclissia on Hard Mode.
February 13, 2009
Thinking of getting a few games, marching aimlessly to death on CoDWaW, finally got Assassins Creed and will, without a doubt, be playing Multiwinia like a madman.
February 13, 2009
Oh, and Eternal Silence rocks!
February 13, 2009
I was hoping to clean up all the behemoths in fallout 3 finally and finish Gears of War 2. The power constantly going off and cutting weight might interfere with that though =)
February 13, 2009
Chris, if you get to a spot in Beyond Good and Evil that’s nigh impossible to clear using keyboard controls (there is one in particular I’m thinking of), may I recommend trying the demo of Pinnacle Game Profiler, a program that’ll handily let you use your pc gamepad. It’s free for 30 days, but of course the pressure is on to finish the game from that point on; I think it really does help, so keep it mind.
I’ve been replaying Psychonauts on Xbox lately; am up to the Milkman Conspiracy. Great, funny game; Tim Schafer is a mad genius. Also been playing Dino Run and Gimme Friction a lot on pc.
February 13, 2009
I spent untold hours playing Morrowind again. Or more specifically, it’s expansion pack Bloodmoon. Fuck yeah vikings.
Not having fast travel or an arrow pointing me exactly where I need to go is great, because I actually have to explore and ask for information and go on adventures, instead of just running in a straight line through the forest until I get to the thing I need to kill/pick up/talk to.
February 13, 2009
I think I’d like to get around to playing more Eternal Silence. It seems so far a lot like the ship combat in Star Wars Battlefront, which I didn’t like, but maybe I’ll get used to it.
I’ve been playing FO3 with my CROWBAR MOD! I’d also like to try out another one, click my name to see it. Its a mod that gives forests and plants and stuff to the game, great after you’ve completed the Harold quest.
February 13, 2009
Dystopia!!
Awesome HL2 mod. Has a bit of a learning curve, but it is great once you know how everything works.
February 13, 2009
I’m probably going to be playing Eternal Silence as well. Spent quite a while playing it last week, had a blast, though I’ll probably try and get in some good old TF2 as well.
February 13, 2009
More Natural Selection mod for me.
@ Slix: Dystopia rocks, one of the all time best HL2 Mods.
February 14, 2009
I finally got around buying Fallout 3. Nuff said.
February 14, 2009
‘ccording to Steam I have played… 95.3 hours of TF2, 1.3 hours of L4D (had a 0.5 of CoD4 until yesterday). I’ve just read this ridiculous saying that arena needs to be radicly changed on UberCharged (I am trying to read their low-level material ever since 1fort closed down), and then I just had a little, no, much less respect to that site. Arena needs inprovments around the team balance and sitting out. It’s so damn fun to own the other team with good teamplay in yours, and it’s so damn fun to manage to win a 4v2 (you are that 2) as a lone engie with an afk aginst some guys who are afraid to cap because they think that other guys is a pro Spy, while you shotgun them one at a time, building level 1 sentries all over the place, killing them with the surprise sentries, and then go to heal agin.
Yes sir, I am usually no 100-hours-a-week nerd, but I have just found this great arena-only server on which I am pretty much 8 hours a day. Plus I have tried to play some L4D agin, but, alas, I only get to play with idiots, idiots, usually from Poland of someplace in Russia. These IDIOTS are STUPID and can’t PLAY and ALLWAYS RAGE QUIT AFTER ONE ROUND. GOD I AM SO ANNOYED. There are also some good servers I found on the server browser in which I have about 10 ping, but NOOOO, it’s taken by 2-3 antipathetic, selfish “friends”, the kind you see in TF2 arena griefing when they are the only survivors from both teams, ruining the game. They, of course, tell me to fuck off the second I join, and votekick me. I guess L4D is an American game, for people whom have a whole bunch of friends playing lots of video games and can afford them.
Also, I was promised bigger more well thought blog posts, and behold, my comment is bigger than your post. I miss your half thought posts in 1fort Chris :(
February 14, 2009
Probably a lot of Gmod this weekend (Thanks for that, by the way- you got me started on Gmod) and some Dystopia. If you guys see me, feel free to shout!
February 14, 2009
well, I completed lats weeks goals, except for the super mutant behemoths, and even snagged the firelance and a shitload of Alien Power Cells! This weekend, I intend to grab a couple more Bobbleheads, raid the Deathclaw Sanctuary, and find Arlington Cemetary! In other games, I will try to reach level 37 in Dead Rising, and pass the first level in Pacman. Frickin’ ghosts know my every move.
February 14, 2009
Ah yes, beyond good and evil. Nice game. I recommend looking up an Something Awfull Let’s play for it. Should give you a good chuckle. I I will be spending my weekend being kind of disturbed by Fear 2’s ending. I feel violated by it, those who finished it as well should understand why.
Think i’ll try to get over it by massive Zombie/survivor slaughter in L4D this weekend.
February 14, 2009
@Nonomu198:
OBJECTION! Not all russians are idiots.
Though most of the people playing online games are, unfortunately.
February 14, 2009
Hey, I’ve been a longtime follower (read Concerned, followed 1Fort regularly) and this is the first time I’ve commented.. Beyond Good and Evil was often overlooked, which is sad because I loved the characters, art style and the world in general. Fortunately Ubisoft is working on BGE2, despite the slow sales. I can only wish this happened to my other favourite underrated title, Psychonauts…
I’ll be playing Prince of Persia on PC this week, and some Left 4 Dead. If the Scout pack comes out I’ll be one more statistic clogging the servers.
February 14, 2009
@Nonomu198:
I guess you are from Great Britain? What’s up with L4D autosearch anyway? I’m Russian, and when i use “find lobby/game in progress”,i usually end up on some random server, and go away (or get kicked) after 10 seconds or so. Bottom line: play only with your friends.
February 14, 2009
Has anyone here played Star Wars: Battlefronts 2?
The Eternal Silence mod is a deliberate replica of the space combat levels from Battlefronts. Battlefronts had the 2 capital ships, complete with control rooms and hangars, the 3 computer-controlled corvettes per team, the fighters, the bombers, the gunships, the gunship spawning, the boarders destroying the enemy capital ship from inside, everything.
And that’s why I love Eternal Silence. Not wholly original, but excellent fun.
February 14, 2009
I have played BattleFront 2, and despite some horrible changes to the game, the space mode is great.
February 14, 2009
I don’t have anything aginst Russians, it’s just that, you know, I can’t communicate with them.
Is Chris/Chris, are you ever going to verify my valid comment? I want to share these picture links.
February 14, 2009
I played with a pretty cool Russian guy last week, he rambled about how the Russia movie industry was so much better than hollywood.
February 14, 2009
I actually think battlefront 2 was worse than battlefront 1, besides the space mode.
February 14, 2009
My plans: Getting back to some TF2 for the first time in a looong while
Speaking of Taking Pictures in Games: Since my money’s tight in its spandex budget girdle, I don’t have Bioshock, but I do remember in 6th grade taking a picture of every enemy in Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. But that was mostly a I-have-spare-time-why-do-something-constructive? sort of thing.
February 14, 2009
I have tried Eternal Silence and I like it….but it feels unfinished. There is potential there. Valve should buy the dev team and make it a fullbore game….after they do that with INSURGENCY.
INSURGENCY..where CS players go to die.
February 14, 2009
@Nonomu198: Most russian Internet users know English because it’s relatively easy to learn.
@ZomBuster: He certainly LIED. Movie industry is equally retarded everywhere, mainly because it’s industry. Only exception is cartoons (including 3D cartoons) - i think there’s still a number of good cartoons out there.
February 14, 2009
Tomorrow, I’m going to a Halo party, where a friend of mine will hold a mass Halo 3 Multiplayer game with 12 Xboxes and 12 televisions, all linked together. He told me to bring all my games, my Xbox, and a controller, so there’ll be plenty of GTA4 massacre sessions. It’ll be going on all day and into Monday. By that time, there might be no one left in the morning but the host, myself, and possibly other people. I’m looking towards having a party.
February 15, 2009
Hot damn, Doma! Sounds FIKUNCG AMSWEOE!
February 15, 2009
I don’t know if Chris heard already, but… VERSION 2 OF GANG GARRISSON 2 IS OUT!!! Link to official site is in my name.
February 15, 2009
Came to my aunt this Friday, attended a pro wrestling event Saturday and now I’ve been stuck here with a piece of shit computer… I must say I never remembered how addictive Civilization III and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 were until today.
February 15, 2009
Putzy, I know the target tracking and jedi really brought the 2nd game down for me, but the space combat was buck wild. Also, there was that one map where you could play a wampa. Rad.
Wormatsu! Same thing happened to me last month, excepting the pro wrestling. I recommend trying the Indians out, cause war elephants rock the socks.
February 15, 2009
i played halo. :O
February 15, 2009
I mostly played CoD4 this weekend along with some Halo 3, BF:BC, and some good old Balloon Fight.
February 16, 2009
I just started playing GTA 4. Great game with some fun missions. You should get it Chris.
February 16, 2009
Yes, GTA 4 is great. In the entire game, Brucie has to be my favorite character. Crazy-ass ‘roid raging car nut who lends me his helecopter? YES PLEASE.
February 16, 2009
Hey chris, is this site in my name yours?
Anyway, I’ve just been playing gta iv on the xbox and NOT FALLOUT 3 :(
February 16, 2009
There’s another First-Person Shouter on Blogspot.
February 16, 2009
