Week Ender

I spy some Fallout 3 on my horizon... how about you?

As sort of a new non-feature, I thought I’d start a Friday tradition and make an open thread for you guys to chime in on your upcoming weekend gaming-related plans.

I’ve got a few things on my own to-do list.  First, I’m hoping to get in some more Fallout 3 — I’ve started a new character and I’m playing through as, if not a complete do-gooder, then at least less of a selfish murderer type.  Justice is the name of the game this time around, righting wrongs with extreme violence.  So, yeah, there will still be plenty of murdering, just for different reasons.  I will miss the cannibalism, though.

I haven’t played Left 4 Dead in a couple weeks, and I hope to get a couple good versus rounds in.  I’m also planning to check out the Burnnout Paradise trial (if I can handle the hefty download), and maybe a couple other demos.

In terms of the site, I’m going to put in some time on it this weekend, too.  I’ve got some color schemes to try out, I’m going to get an e-mail form up and running, and I’m trying to get the comments section to display the number of each post, so it’s easier for you guys to reply to one another.  I’ve also nearly finished a new article and hope to have that up by Monday.  Time permitting, I’ll check in with Nondrick and see if he’s solved his potion pie dilemma.

How about you?  What games are you planning to play this weekend?  Anything new?  Anything old?  Here’s your chance to shout about it.

Seeing as I’m about as poor as everyone else, I’m sticking with games I already have. Rock Band 2 and FFVII for me this weekend. Also a cool mod for Half-Life 1 called The Trap.

Maybe some Bioshock on the PS3, if I can find the time :)

I couldn’t be arsed to wait for the download, so just went right ahead and bought Burnout Paradise. I’m literally going to install it now, and I’m quite looking forward to it to be honest…

Really nice idea I must say, though you don’t seem to get all the comments you need and more than that even without encouragement :).
Anyway, all those recent posts about fallout 3 has made me want to pick it up again. I’ve gotten to L19 with two characters (one energy-weapon goodie and a melee/fatman bad guy) but have never been bothered to finnish the main questline as I really dislike what generally happens when you complete quests and therefore aren’t drawn into taking them. I’m also going to continue on my small personal mod pack for the awesome indie game Cortex Command (linked in my name). If anyone doesn’t know what to play for the weekend, please give that one a shot.

These comments are certainly easier to read.

I have Fallout 3 as well, trying to be the nicest bastard out there. Saved Megaton, opened Vault 101 for the better, spread word about the Good Fight, and so on. Going to keep playing through that.

MGO and L4D is on my horizon…

February 6, 2009

I’m planning to not really play any games at all, and focus on a different hobby for a bit. But I’m likely to say “ah, forget it” and play some L4D VS, maybe some TF2. If I’m feeling ambitious, I may fire up Fallout 3 again. I love the game, but kind of got out of the groove when I had some crash issues. I think I made it to level 12 or so, and I never did beat the final quest. Sad, given that Fallout 2 is my favorite ever… Your posts here inspired me to start playing again, though.

Love the idea of a annual friday comment-athon chris.

As for me, i don’t have a Pc capable of playing any decent games, so i’ll be trying out the Halo Wars demo as well as putting in some Left 4 Dead TF2 and possibly starting over again on Fallout 3.

It looks like I’m in for some more Fable 2 this weekend, as I can’t find a reasonably priced copy of Fallout 3 anywhere ($70? Still?) and I can’t find Left 4 Dead at all in this city. :(

As for me, I’m getting a new PC! Whoooo! it’ll be powerful enough to handle any new game on max settings.
Need to get some games, though. Any recommendations would me much appreciated.

Well in the UK it’s been snowing, there’s at least a couple of inches out there so naturally the country has ground to a halt. An ideal time to stay in and get to grips with a low tech game requiring the patience of Job. Called ZangbandTK, it’s apparently a Rogue/Nethack style of thing with a mild graphical do over to make it less ASCII. Know nothing much about it other than what I read on Rock/Paper/Shotgun a while back but apparently it’s good at building up your character and confidence in your prowess to the point where you think nothing can stop you then finds a way of handing you your head. Never really got into these type of games when they were state of the art but it’s never too late to try something new.

I’m planning to put a bit more time into my evil unarmed only character on Fallout 3- I made him as ugly as possible to justify my wandering the wastes and punching the heads off anything good. I imagine a bit of TF2 will also feature.

February 6, 2009

I’m gonna be playing Fallout 3 (which you convinced me to buy with your posts about it) - I only bought it last Friday so I’m still on my first play-through. Also, I’m going to be playing outside [gasp]: I’m from England, and we’re snowed in here, so there’s lots of fun to be had outside (it’ll be like Operation Anchorage, I guess).
@ Alux - if your computer can handle it, I’d recommend getting Crysis, not because it’s a brilliant game, but because it’s worth it just to see how gorgeous it looks on medium/high settings.

Some deals this weekend I may take advantage of if I can get paid.

Impulse (impulsedriven.com)
Titan Quest - $4
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade - $4
Defender of the Crown - $4

GOG.com
“Kingpin: Life of Crime and Redneck Rampage Collection that includes Redneck Rampage, Redneck Rampage Rides Again: Arkansas and Redneck Rampage: Suckin’ Grits on Route 66 in a bundle for only $9.98.”

I love weekend deals…

oh… other than maybe grabbing some of those games I have a feeling I may be away from my computer all weekend.

I think I need some older games for my POS laptop (what runs on a 1.2GHz Celeron w/ a 16mb ATI card anyway?).

KeroroCanti
February 6, 2009

I’ll most likely be playing TF2 after new realizing just how nice it looks and runs on my laptop last night, and I plan on buying Mount & Blade. Oh, and I agree with JeCa that everyone should try CC. I may play a bit this weekend myself.

I’m gonna try to finish my video Let’s Play of Commander Keen I (the second island is left), then do some more World of Warcraft playing (I’m so goddamn slow in that game compared to my peers). If Commander Keen I gets finished, I might do a video walkthrough of Day of the Tentacle.

I’m also gonna try to squeeze in some progress on both my hobby Operating System aswell as my Tic-Tac-Toe videogame project with undefeatable AI and enough music format support to rival WMP.

So yeah, good times.

Wait- who says good guys can’t be cannibals? I mean, you’re gonna be killing people anyway. Is it a conflict of interest thing?

Mr. Brit
February 6, 2009

I’ve been looking online but can’t find any help so I thought I’d try this. On Fallout 3 I have both Jericho and Dogmeat as companions and have been working through the main quest. I got to the point where you get captured shortly after getting the G.E.C.K. Having escaped, I returned to the vault to see if my companions were waiting but they’re not there. Is there a way of getting them back or will I have to restore to a previous save? I can’t use codes because it is the PS3 version :(

Wolfox
February 6, 2009

I’ll probably use most of my time playing Saint’s Row 2. If for some reason I need some “change”, I may complement it with Rainbox Six Vegas 2, Sacred Gold, or Stronghold Crusader.

And congrats on the new blog!

Alterran
February 6, 2009

This weekend I will mostly be playing….

The Dawn of War 2 Beta. Having immense fun with it, I’m in love with this new style of gameplay. That and the fact that the Space Marine Botlers actually fire like they should, as opposed to someone letting rip with an AK-47 ;)

On top of that I think another play through of the Killzone 2 demo is in order, and hell probably a bit more F.E.A.R 1. Need to get it finished before number 2 comes out.

Christopher
February 6, 2009

Mr. Brit: According to the Fallout 3 wiki, if you lose Dogmeat he will show up a couple days later outside Vault 101. Not sure about Jericho, but he may have gone back to the saloon in Megaton (if it still exists).

tamick88
February 6, 2009

Well, I will probably be playing L4D and HL2 Episode 2 the most. I might reinstall Fallout 3 to see how it runs on Windows 7 beta though. (been on my to do list for a little while, lol) Other than that I might switch it up a little with portal and HL1… Is it 3:00 yet? ;)

I have finally bought a new computer, and I have been buying new games and making my collection for this very weekend. I will be playing Far Cry 2, Crysis, Assasins Creed.

February 6, 2009

I’ve been planning to waste my life in front of the Xbox hopefully all weekend. My plans include playing L4D (trying to play it the every-one-for-themselves with my buddies, sounds like fun), playing Fallout 3 and trying to get my character to the next level by doing a bunch of quests, and that’s pretty much it.

@The Defenestrater- You lose Karma when you cannibalize.

February 6, 2009

Well, tonight I’ve got a little Dead Space lined up, which i plan on playing in pitch blackness with a strong gin drink at my elbow. Once I’ve had my fill of that, It’s back to Fallout 3 to try out the Classic Weapons mod, because I often miss the grand selection that the old fallout games had. IT really improves the current one, in my opinion. Then its T42 and L4D until i wander off in a daze.

February 6, 2009

I just bought Fallout 3 today, so I’m going to spend the better half of the weekend playing that.
other than that, probably playing Left 4 Dead some more, or trying to finally beat Kane & Lynch Dead Men.
(all titles listed on PC)

February 6, 2009

This weekend I don’t think i’ll get around to much gaming D: The Six Nations starts tomorrow and i’m at work 9-2, Ruggers starts at 3 soooo i’ll probably be far to hammered to play anything. But if I do play it’ll be a combination of CSS, Fallout 3, Football Manager 2009 (Finished 5th with Coventry City in 2nd season :-D) or Medieval 2 Total War. M2TW is the only game in recent years that has kept me coming back, and rarely go a few days without popping in to murder some peasents and arabian chappies.

Valkyria Chronicles. It’s a console game, yes, but it’s a PERFECT console game. On the PC side of things, I just figured out how to run Steam on my school’s computers, so naturally some heavy-duty procrastination is in order. Just me, a mouse, and…Peggle University.

February 6, 2009

Probably go to my brother’s a play some Wii bowling/golf/baseball/pool/tanks/fishing/whatever. I’ll do a couple rounds of TF2, a couple hours in Mount & Blade (it was on sale a couple weeks ago), and I’ve had a hankerin’ lately to go back and fire up my racing sim. I obviously have some big aspirations, but i’ll probably spend most of Saturday watching movies or downloading pron.

I’m going to get myself back into Team Fortress 2, got bored in it a few weeks ago. Need to get warmed up again before the Scout update.

Also, I just got my Far Cry 2 Collector’s Edition from the mail. I’m loving it so far, and will definately play it some more this weekend.

Maybe I’ll try Operation: Anchorage.

February 6, 2009

This sounds fun.

All right, so I’m probably going to drink a lot.
I can’t play anything at the moment, I need to buy a new graphics card, so fallout and l4d are out of the question. TF2 is also pretty dead.

I’ve rediscovered gmod, so loads of that on my horizon. Also Audiosurf and Mount and Blade. Plus drinking. The End.

I’ve been playing through Fallout 3 a second time, and in my first playthrough, I was involved with much do-goodery, being as helpful as possible, hell, I never even went to paradise falls the first time. But this time, if I could, I would’ve achieved the title of “Wasteland Asshole”. I looted, then blew up megaton, I massacred big town, I enslaved many people, fried Vault 101’s water chip, killed the overseer, killed Amata, obliterated Three Dog, made Tenpenny suck a bullet, slit Dukov and his whore’s throats, downloaded the killable children mod, did my business in Little Lamplight, then proceeded to murder all the little brats. And you know what? I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

PJ
February 6, 2009

I imagine I’ll be stressfully studying for midterms, amongst rounds of TF2. I’m loving the new crit system, takes a lot more skill, and crit rockets aren’t making me as angry.

February 6, 2009

I WOULD be playing L4D or Team Fortress 2, but unfortunatly my computer has hit its end. I don’t have my copy of Fallout 3 because a friend is borrowing it (for 2 weeks >:[ ) So I just plan on playing whatever I got on the xbox :[

I’m also gunna play some L4D with my friends, as I have already done today, and maybe I will play some Track Mania. I just made a giant kick ass track that takes like half an hour to do, and its like a maze. I guess thats all I’m doing this weekend :P

I just bought Burnout: Paradise on a whim. Well, considering how recent Need for Speed titles didn’t live up to my expectations I was in the market for a decent arcade style raciing game on the PC. And after hearing such great praise for Burnout on the consoles, I figured might as well give it a go. Haven’t actually played it yet, but will post my impressions later.

Well I just spent a couple of hours in Burnout and its the best time I have had playing a racing a game ever. It’s so very different for the occasional need for speeds that I was used to. I love it.
I do have to say though, you’re far better off using a 360 controller for windows (or any other gamepad) rather than the keyboard controls. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with the keyboard controls, it just feels much more fluid with a gamepad.

Octaeder
February 6, 2009

I’ll be going through Fallout 3 as an evil character this time. Although even on my last, “good” playthrough I had the cannabilism perk. Being right and just is all very well, but survival is survival damn it and if that means chomping down on some choice raider limbs then I’m game.

Mike
February 6, 2009

Gave the FEAR 2 demo a spin the other night. Fun stuff! A very nice next-gen graphics treatment to an otherwise solid formula of incredible gunplay and creepy Alma sections.

Also tried GRID. A mildly entertaining racer with some neat real-life touches like brake lock-up.

Otherwise, I’m still playing Project Gotham Street Racing since October. I can still suck another 4 months out of it easily given my work schedule.

Afterwards, I’ll probably get back into Ninja Gaiden II.

I’ll be messing around with the map editor on Far Cry 2, fathoming it out and generally setting fire to my maps with my infinite Molotovs. Also, thinking of starting a new character in Fallout 3, who exists solely to kill everyone and everything it’s possible to kill. It’s gonna be tough, not having any mates or quest-givers.

Does FO3 still have that unconscious rubbish when you try and kill an essential NPC? I haven’t done a whole load of slaughtering yet.

Tried playing Left 4 Dead again, having neglected it for quite some time. Started an Advanced campaign and was sick of the other players by the end. You would think that players on Advanced would know by now that running into the distance by yourself gets you killed. But no matter what I said, they persisted, dies, and left me and one sensible player to be a light snack.
Given up for now, it took too much of my vim away. Has anyone else had this problem, and, if so, how do you stop it?

I will play some more L4D with my friend who has a 360. It’s interesting to play it both on the PC and the xbox. PC has better aiming and controls, playing on the xbox makes it feel more like a movie, the theme of the game.
Also, my friend is bringing over Fallout 3 sometime soon, and I’m going to try to get it up and running on my comp.

I think I need to put some more money into my computer tho.

Jebus Chris, I have 37 hours logged in FO3.

I got fed up with Tenpenny Tower the other day, and ended up killing everyone in it. Going in I was the Vault Legend. Slaughters later (including one sadistically amusing one where I crowded everyone into a single room and then threw a Nuka Grenade :D) I ended up the Harbringer of War. Whoops.

My karma’s in the shitter and I can’t see an end any time soon. Man, and I was so happy to be a good person. Of course, now I’m in the mindset and end up stealng and killing and raping and pillaging and burning things all the time…

I even killed Billy Creel, who I felt was generally the coolest guy in the game for some reason. :( Eh, I finally found a scoped magnum on him, so it’s not a total loss. And I took his bandana. So he LIVES ON. l:’(

That Francis, I’ve already told him there is a new site.

I guess this counts as the weekend being over. Anyway, I purchased, played, and finished Operation Anchorage. Shit was surprisingly cash. The shock sword is the best thing ever, no ifs, ands, or buts.

…That’s about it.

So, um. Chris? I was perusing Bash.org, and I found a quote… http://bash.org/?7703

Well, that looks familiar.

Click my name if you forget why.

So, um…

Did you… did you know? o_O

I spelled my own name wrong? Woo, I suck. :D

Ooh, this is an interesting new colour scheme. I gotta say, I’m liking it. It’s not blinding like the pure-white deal you had going on before.

Huh. New scheme is nice.

I do like to brown-ish new scheme BUT maybe a tid’bit more lighter color behind the articles?

Lichtonatus

New scheme is infinitely better than the scary-white blank one. Me Likey.

This new scheme, oddly, feels like an old blanket. That one that’s always comfy and cozy. I like this scheme. I’m gonna go dig out my old blanket.

New color scheme is surprisingly awesome. Other than the favicon, the site is now just about perfect.

New color scheme reminds me of those army jackets. Also reminds me of Fallout 3.

I like the new color scheme.

Well… the scheme looks like various shades of puke to me. Oddly it manages to be not so bad, at the same time. Reminds me of the Steam website.

Maybe use some hue other than yellow/green as a base though.

Well, it all depends on the banner at the top. The color schemes goes well with fallout stuff, but not with the heavily red ones.

Josh

I guess it’s really just all about the top banner that changes every time. With the darker coloured banners like Mouse said, it’s fine. With lighter banners it doesn’t fit too well.

JoeScratch

Well, I like this theme, better than plain old white. The banner needs work though.

The new theme kind of reminds me of Americas Army. Can’t wait for AA3!

I agree with the banner deciding the overall look of the website.

Nice new colors for the site! It reminds me of Fallout 3, which kinda fits, considering every post so far has been about Fallout 3.

Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst, on a fanserver. Great game for laptops, as it isn’t mouse-cntrolled. Plus it has ROBOTS

Out Reach

1fort was a nice clean white… Why has this become distopia grey?

Lichtonatus
February 9, 2009

Out Reach, surely you know by now that “next -gen” IS grey, green, black and all the other colours of the dirt spectrum?

That said, I stand by my previous comment.

Roadrunner

I much prefered the colour scheme previously before, I don’t like the green one particularly…

you still need a good banner though :P

Well, I know what I did over *my* weekend! I got my account hijacked.

…gorramit. Now I’ve gotta wait on steam support to finally wrest control of the account back to me.

You have to understand Chris, getting the right look for this site is harder than 1fort. 1fort had a particular theme, which he could precisely work on. Here, this is a much bigger choice to make.
